Headaches
Headaches in children are common and usually are not serious.
Common types of headaches in children include migraine and tension headache. In rare cases, they can be sign of something else going on in the
brain and warrant detailed assessment.

Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a common condition that affects the brain and can impact children of all ages. While children with epilepsy experience recurrent seizures, having a single seizure does not necessarily mean they have epilepsy.
The most frequent type of seizure is the ‘tonic-clonic’ seizure, though there are several other types, including ‘absence’ seizures. Epilepsy can arise from various causes, such as genetic factors or rare metabolic issues.
Fortunately, most children with epilepsy can live healthy, normal lives. Identifying the underlying cause and beginning the right treatment is essential for managing the condition.

Non-epileptic seizures
Also referred to as ‘funny turns’, are seizures that are not caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
Causes can range from physical causes like syncope (faints), migraines and vertigo to complex psychiatric disorders like panic disorder and psychosis.

Tics and Tourettes
These are common in children and consist of
sudden, rapid and recurrent motor movements or vocalisation, generally preceded by urge.
These can occasionally be associated with neuro-
developmental disorders like ADHD and psychological conditions like OCD.

Sleep disorders
Common sleep disorders in children include sleep apnoea and insomnia, as well as parasomnias, which are disruptive sleep related behaviours such as sleepwalking and night terrors.
A treatment plan can be devised after a thorough assessment.

Developmental delay
Developmental delay is diagnosed when a child fails to achieve developmental milestones as expected.
It can have multiple causes such as prematurity, neurological, infection, genetic and metabolic.
Investigations are aimed to identify a possibly cause, likely prognosis and possible treatment.
Management is multidisciplinary and involves input from specialists like physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language
therapists.

Neurodisability
I specialise in the management of conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Learning Disabilities and Autism.
